Day 4 - St. Croix

Day 4 and already three days behind on my blogging goal. Ugh!

To be fair (excuses, excuses) I’ve been busy with day job events that haven’t left a lot of time for blogging. But today I head home to almost a whole month of staying put!

This week, I’ve been in the US Virgin Islands for work. It’s been a really interesting and challenging week. I won’t get into the details here, but it felt like a week of two steps forward, one step back. All in all, it was a good week, and I got to see a little bit of St. Croix on my first visit to the island.

One of the activities for the week was taking a historical tour through Frederiksted, learning about the agricultural and ecological history of the place and how the various colonizers and slave owners impacted it. (Spoiler: it wasn’t great) I also got to spend time with local farmers learning about their vision for a bright, food secure future for their communities.

I didn’t have a whole lot of time to craft or explore craft on the island, but the jewelry artistry here is strong. I did buy a beautiful, hand crafted Laramite necklace and earring set to remind me of St. Croix. And of course the best handiwork was nature’s. The beautiful landscape, the bright Caribbean Sea, the coral, tropical fish, conch, turtle, crab, and pelican were fun to see. The little beach time I had was a shell hunter's dream.

It’s been a privilege to spend a few days here in St. Croix. And I’m very eager to go home and settle in for the start of spring.
