Day 10 - Reflections

Day ten and only the third post. Does this equal at least a bi-weekly habit developing? Progress is progress. I’ll take it!

Reflecting on the past four weeks, it’s been quite busy. I was on the road for three weeks, with a mild bout of COVID between trips. Thankfully, updated vaccinations, the flexibility to isolate, and good masking and cleaning habits, made for more of an inconvenience of canceled plans than a serious illness.

The real upside was having five uninterrupted days of isolation in my craft room! Two of those days were work days, but the evenings and the three day weekend were all crafting. I took an online foundation paper piecing class, and I made a pretty decent dent in my project queue. I finished up a baby sweater, a super bowl shirt (for solo game watching), and I played quite a bit with my embroidery machine.

I’m a bigger football fan than Swiftie, but I was inspired by a sweatshirt I saw in our pickle ball class a couple weeks before. The idea was born and took only about 30 minutes to make. I love my new “In my Nana era” tee.

I’m also still fairly new and learning all of the functions of my embroidery sewing machine. It’s quite impressive how smart the machine and designs are. To help myself learn, I subscribed to ME Time Bella Box by Kimberbell designs. It’s a twice yearly box of fun bite sized projects to create using the embroidery functions. However, the one thing I’ve learned about machine embroidery is that it takes time. Every step of the project is laid out and easy to follow, and requires some action like trimming something or changing the thread color. But a lot of the time is waiting for the machine to finish its work. Perfect for an isolation weekend. And sometimes I was able to get a little bit of knitting in between steps.

I’m quite pleased with the projects I was able to complete. Of course there was some good rest and a few naps over the isolation days. There are still a dozen or so projects left for me to work on from the few boxes I’ve received so far. I may need to schedule a Craft Room Lock In weekend every month!
